Cuomo admin dubs Trump license law response 'retaliation'

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration is accusing the the Trump administration of "retaliation" in response to its decision to limit New Yorkers’ access to certain expedited border crossing programs.

"This is obviously political retaliation by the federal government and we're going to review our legal options,” senior Cuomo adviser Rich Azzopardi said.

The Department of Homeland Security announced last night that New Yorkers will no longer be eligible for programs such as Global Entry due to the new state law letting undocumented immigrants obtain driver’s licenses. The law limited the ability of DMVs to share information with some federal agencies — most notably Immigration and Customs Enforcement — and DHS is arguing that information is necessary for the programs to work.

The Trump administration intervened in a lawsuit over the license legislation last year, asking for the restrictions on information sharing to be thrown out. The suit was dismissed over questions of legal standing.
