Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Tuesday that he supports waiting “months down the road” on deciding whether to impeach President Donald Trump, saying more facts are needed.
“We don’t know all of it yet and the more new facts come out the better informed decision the American people and then the Congress can make on this issue,” Schumer said at a press conference.
"So I think the strategy of getting as much of the facts out and then months down the road making a decision on impeachment ... is the right strategy.”Schumer’s comments are in line with Speaker Nancy's Pelosi's stance and come amid growing pressure from House Democrats on Pelosi to begin impeachment proceedings. More than 60 House Democrats — over a quarter of the caucus — are pushing to begin impeachment proceedings. Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.), who flipped a GOP district in 2018, is the latest House Democrat to publicly back impeachment.
The growing momentum in the House for impeachment comes after Trump said last week he was open to using foreign opposition research.
