New York, New Jersey, Connecticut closing bars, restaurants indefinitely starting Monday night

ALBANY — New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have agreed to close bars and restaurants for eat-in services in their three states in a regional effort to enforce social distancing as the new coronavirus cases jump across the Northeast, those states' governors announced on a joint call with reporters Monday morning.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced gyms, movies theaters and casinos will also close at 8 p.m. Monday evening. Bars and restaurants will only be available for takeout services. Gatherings of more than 50 are banned.

All non-essential services will be shut down from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day. Essential services includes grocery stores, gas stations and pharmacies.

The regional order follows Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s announcement late Sunday that bars and restaurants in the city would be closed indefinitely.
