New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is urging anyone who attended President Donald Trump’s fundraiser at Trump’s Bedminster golf course on Thursday to self-quarantine and get tested after news broke early Friday that the president and first lady had tested positive for coronavirus.
Murphy and New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy said early Friday that “the contact-tracing process is underway.
”“We urge everyone who attended yesterday's event in Bedminster to take full precautions, including self-quarantining and getting tested,” the statement read.
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for the coronavirus Thursday night, after holding the fundraiser earlier in the day. According to The Washington Post, the White House was aware that close Trump aide Hope Hicks, with whom the president had traveled, was exhibiting potential coronavirus symptoms before Trump held the fundraiser. The president was in “close contact with dozens” there, according to the Post.
"Tammy and I send our best wishes to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a speedy and complete return to good health,” the Murphys’ statement said. “If there is one thing we have learned in New Jersey over these months, it's that we pull together and support everyone fighting this virus.”
The fundraiser was held the same day New Jersey launched a new contact tracing app.
It’s not immediately clear whether the event was well-attended by New Jersey Republican officials and candidates. Doug Steinhardt, chairman of the Republican State Committee, did not attend the event, according to his spokesperson Harrison Neely.
