New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo Tuesday announced plans to resign amid public pressure from fellow Democrats after a bombshell report from the state attorney general’s office detailed allegations into how he sexually harassed 11 women, violating state and federal law.
“The best way I can help now is if I step aside,” Cuomo said.
He plans to step aside in 14 days. The three-term governor, who gained national acclaim for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, now faces several criminal probes into his alleged conduct. Cuomo had denied the report’s findings, arguing that his accusers misconstrued well-intentioned gestures and comments.
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, is next in the line of succession.
